Bogo Receives Back to School 2025 Project: School, an Opportunity for Every Child
Bogo, a town in Cameroon’s Far North region, is one of the areas where poverty hits families hardest. School enrollment rates there are precarious, often severely impacted by economic hardship and the region’s security challenges. This is precisely why Bazironde chose to include Bogo in the Back to School 2025 program.
The arrival of the Bazironde team in Bogo sparked a real buzz. News had spread through the neighborhoods even before the volunteers arrived. Mothers came with their children in the early hours, some having walked for over an hour to be there.
The welcome from local authorities was particularly memorable. The mayor’s representative and the neighborhood chief made a point of being present to symbolically demonstrate their support for this initiative. Their presence strengthened the legitimacy of the initiative and encouraged even the most reluctant families to come forward.
The kits distributed in Bogo—backpacks, notebooks, pens, pencils, and various supplies—represented much more than material support for these families. In an area where children are sometimes encouraged to stay home to help with household chores or work in the fields, receiving a school kit also sends a message: your child should go to school, and we are helping you make that possible.
Bazironde warmly thanks the local volunteers in Bogo, whose involvement was crucial to the success of this distribution, as well as Muslim Aid Australia (MAA), without whom this project would not have been possible.
“Here in Bogo, many parents keep their children at home because they can’t afford school. That day, several families told me they were going to enroll their children. That’s the real impact.”
— A volunteer from Bazironde, Bogo, October 2025
